You’d be hard-pressed to find a beauty lover who isn’t searching for the perfect recipe for radiant skin. But achieving healthy, clear, lit-from-within skin goes beyond relying solely on the curated arsenal of skincare products you keep in your beauty cabinet.

A good skincare routine is essential, plus some healthy practices added into your daily life to bump up (and plump up!) the natural beauty of your skin. Things like regularly applying SPF. Just ask Lily Collins who is a stickler for sunscreen. “I swear by SPF and wear it every single day,” she told Vogue. And anything beauty icon Lily is doing, we’re down with.

Thankfully, out of date beauty norms (like sun tanning) are on the way out, and instead there are some simple habits we are leaning into to keep our skin healthy and beautiful. Keep reading for everything you need to know so you can love the skin you’re in.

1. Hydration is Key

(Credit: Getty)

Beautiful skin starts from within, so grab your emotional support water bottle and keep hydration top of mind. As we are ramping up for the first El Nino summer in years, a nice bottle will encourage you to keep it close and help you make drinking water a habit.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley knows the value of keeping hydrated. “Hydration is essential to my daily routine. Be it overall wellbeing or my skin, staying hydrated is essential when it comes to looking and feeling my best as it helps keep my skin radiant and healthy as well as my energy levels up,” the model told Waterdrop.

Dehydrated skin can become dry, flaky, cracked and itchy, so sip at least two litres of water a day to flush out toxins from your body to help keep your skin looking clear and vibrant.

2. Sun Protection… That Also Looks Great

Bucket hats and wide brim hats… they’re having a moment, and are our favourite way to look chic, while also protecting our skin.

Because while you may think that a suntan equals an attractive and healthy glow, actually the opposite is true. UV overexposure damages the fibres in the skin called elastin. When they break down, your skin will begin to sag, stretch and lose its ability to go back into place—it’s a fast-track way to premature skin ageing.

Seeking shade, wearing a hat, sunglasses and staying covered up when you go outside are ways to avoid skin damage caused by the sun.

Of course, when it comes to skincare, protecting your skin from UV rays is also a non-negotiable step in any beauty regimen. Daily use of sunscreen with at least SPF50 (on every area of your body exposed to the sun) helps shield you from harmful UV rays that can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and even skin cancer.

A great wide-brimmed hat is chic and practical. (Credit: Instagram/@lackofcolour)

And it’s not just the skin on your face that burns. Don’t be caught out not applying enough sunscreen; you need at least one teaspoon per limb, one for the front of your body, one for the back, and one for your face and neck. Your future self will thank you.

UV damage results in skin damage, premature ageing, and deep pigmentation and it can lead to skin cancer. Every bit of overexposure to the sun now will count later on, so it’s vital to protect your skin.

3. Nutrient-Rich Diet

It is a truth universally acknowledged that ‘you are what you eat’. Want to improve your complexion? Add skin boosting foods to your daily diet.

Eating foods rich in vitamins, antioxidants and healthy fats can supercharge your skin health and give your complexion some added oomph.

Complexion boosters include berries, leafy greens, fatty fish, avocados, sweet potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes and nuts. These provide essential nutrients that promote collagen production, reduce inflammation, and protect your skin from environmental damage.

A well-balanced diet can truly be a beauty gamechanger.

4. Regular Exercise for a Healthy Glow

Exercise not only benefits your body but also has a super positive impact on your skin. Physical activity bumps up blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. This increased blood flow promotes a healthy complexion and contributes to a natural glow way after you finish your workout.

Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga, or a high-intensity workout, find an exercise routine that you enjoy and make it a regular part of your lifestyle.

If you’re exercising outside, double down and reduce your risk of sun damage by checking the UV before heading out, wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sun protection, plus lightweight long-sleeved tops and pants.

5. Consistent Sleep Routine

It’s called ‘beauty sleep’ for a reason. Your skin rejuvenates and repairs itself while you sleep, so establishing a consistent sleep routine is crucial for achieving that coveted morning glow. Aim for seven to nine hours of quality sleep each night, as lack of sleep can lead to increased stress levels and premature ageing.

Use your bedtime skincare routine as a chance to slow down and wind down. It’s here that your beauty cabinet comes into its own, too. Invest in a good skincare routine, including cleansers, serums, and moisturisers, to maximise the benefits of your beauty sleep.

The post Inside The Mimco x Elle Ferguson Collaboration appeared first on ELLE.

Fashion influencer and beauty entrepreneur Elle Ferguson has carved out her career by boldly breaking style rules and setting trends.

We know Elle for her effortless beach-to-street style and bold fashion choices, and now she has teamed up with Iconic Australian brand Mimco to create a limited-edition 23-piece capsule jewellery collection, inspired by her favourite destinations—Bondi, Paris and LA.

The collection combines Mimco’s signature craftsmanship with Elle’s love for vintage treasures. In this exclusive interview, Elle opens up about how the collaboration came to life, the personal stories behind her inspirations and her love for mixing metals (because, yes, we are here for wearing gold and silver together!).

ELLE: How did the collaboration with Mimco come about, and what was the inspiration?

Elle Ferguson: My love and connection with Mimco stems back to my very first button bag; Mimco has always held a special place in my heart. Last year, I shot content for Mimco in Paris and absolutely fell in love with the collection. When I returned from my trip, I reached out and asked if they would be interested in working on a collection together—the rest is history.

I met with the Mimco design team, and we instantly clicked! Our love and passion for jewellery helped form an amazing relationship.

My vintage jewellery collection and Mimco’s vintage jewel archive really inspired this collection. We joined forces with all our treasured pieces and created something beautiful.

Black and white shot of Elle decorated with necklaces and bangles
From top to bottom: Mimco x Elle Ferguson Bondi Cord Necklace $89.95, Los Angeles Necklace $149.95, Los Angeles Long Necklace $129.95, Paris Quilt Bangle $179.95, Paris Crystal Wrist $199.95 and Los Angeles Bracelet $99.95.

Your favourite destinations—Bondi, Paris, and LA—were a big influence on the designs. Can you share what makes each of these places so special to you?

All three destinations hold a piece of my heart. Bondi Beach is where I live; LA fills me up with inspiration, and Paris is the city of love.

I really love the laid-back lifestyle in Bondi. Being so close to the beach and ocean plays a big part in cleansing me, and I feel as though the earth and sand really level me out. LA is a constant source of inspiration to me, and I love how BOLD it is. And Paris is such a source of inspiration and style.

You’re known for your love of vintage jewellery. How did your personal collection inspire the pieces in this collaboration?

I love to travel, and I am always collecting unique jewellery pieces to build my vintage jewellery collection. Each piece reminds me of places I have visited, and each tells a story. I have been collecting for years, and when I brought my pieces to the Mimco design team and viewed their vintage pieces, everything just worked so well together. The collection almost formed itself.

It is uniquely ‘me’ because, although it might not make sense individually, it does when it’s all together—much like my own vintage jewellery collection.

Shot of Elle wearing heart-themed jewellery
Mimco x Elle Ferguson Paris Necklace $399.95, Paris Pinky Ring $79.95 and Paris Bracelet $179.95.

What was it like working with Mimco’s design team? Were there any standout moments during the creative process? How involved were you?

I now consider the women in the design team my besties! It has been such a collaborative experience, and they really embraced all my ideas and turned them into something special. The process took a year in total.

There was one meeting in particular that I remember where I walked in the room and there was this epic heart necklace on the table. I instantly was drawn to it and put it on. I said to the team where is this from it’s unbelievable, we must do something similar in my collection and then they said this is the first sample of what we are thinking for one of your necklaces… I couldn’t believe it. I knew this collection was going to be next level.

Mixing metals is often considered a style ‘rule breaker’. What are your thoughts on fashion rules, and how do you approach styling jewellery?

There are no rules! You can never wear too much jewellery (unless you run out of space). More is more, so just wear what makes you happy.

What’s your top styling tip for anyone wanting to incorporate pieces from the collection into their everyday look?

Start with your key staple items—mine are blue jeans, a white or black blazer, and, of course, statement jewellery! From there, you can layer. Start off with a simple necklace, but then continue to build your look with more statement pieces. You can also adjust the length of all the necklaces to change up the look of each piece, meaning it can feel like you’re wearing something different each time.

I also love to wear jewellery in odd numbers so one, three or five. I think this ensures you have balance and the lengths on your necklaces go from shortest to longest creating a triangle.

Black and white shot of Elle
Mimco x Elle Ferguson Los Angeles Earrings $129.95, Los Angeles Long Neck $129.95, Paris Bangle $99.95 and Los Angeles Ring $99.95.

You’ve made a name for yourself in the fashion industry. How did you first get your start, and what advice would you give to aspiring creatives?

There’s been many years of hard work, grit and determination. I think I’ve done almost every job you could imagine in the industry and still today there is nothing too small that I won’t do to get the job done.

I started modelling in the industry when I was young and then I studied. From there I took every opportunity that was available to me.

What are your must-have travel accessories, and how does jewellery play a role in completing your travel looks?

Jewellery is a big part of completing looks as it elevates your look and makes it you.

Travel must haves is a great durable luggage. I like a hard case and a soft case (soft cases can expand if you shop hard on your trip). I also LOVE a big shoulder bag with my carry on and I sort everything into smaller pouches in my carry on, so I know where everything is and don’t have to dig and search for it once I’m on the plane.

What’s your personal favourite piece from the Mimco x Elle Ferguson collection, and how do you like to wear it?

That’s like choosing a favourite child; I love everything! My personal favourite is the Paris Necklace. It was the first piece I saw, and when I walked into the room, it was like a beacon on the table. It truly embodies Elle in a necklace. It’s the perfect statement piece, and statement necklaces are making a comeback. I like to wear it with a simple yet chic black dress so the necklace can be the real statement of the outfit.

The Mimco x Elle Ferguson Collection is available to shop at Mimco now.

Delicious, healthy and wallet-friendly? It’s like finding a designer bag at a sample sale—pure joy.

McKenzie’s Pulses in Tetra Pak are available at Woolworths in the canned vegetable aisle, for just $2.20 RRP. They’re the ideal option for those who want speedy, nutritious and tasty food options, while making environmentally conscious choices on the next grocery run.

Everything You Need to Know About Prebiotic Skincare https://www.elle.com.au/beauty/prebiotic-skincare/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 01:37:43 +0000 https://www.elle.com.au/?p=1255475 Move over serums, this highly effective ingredient is taking top place…

The post Everything You Need to Know About Prebiotic Skincare appeared first on ELLE.

]]>
If you’re always on the hunt for the next big thing in beauty, prebiotics are about to become your new obsession. These powerhouse ingredients are all about keeping your skin’s microbiome happy and balanced.

But what exactly are prebiotics, and why should you care? Let’s dive in and find out.

What Are Prebiotics?

Think of prebiotics as the ultimate snack for your skin. They are the goodies that feed and replenish the good bacteria (the microbiota) already living on your skin. This in turn keeps your skin’s microbiome healthy and balanced, which is super important for glowing, resilient skin.

How Do Prebiotics Benefit the Skin?

So, why should you be hyped about prebiotics? Here’s the tea: They can help support the skin barrier—and a balanced skin barrier means your skin stays hydrated and protected. They also reduce inflammation, so it you have sensitive skin, prebiotics can help calm things down and visibly reduce redness and irritation.

Prebiotics in skincare calm irritation and inflammation, and help your skin fend off the bad stuff, such as pollution.

Which Products Contain Prebiotics?

One product that’s totally nailing the prebiotic game is La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Baume B5+. We love a French pharmacy product as much as the next beauty girly, and this dermatologist-approved TikTok trending face saviour is packed with prebiotic ingredients that support skin recovery and soothe dry, irritated skin like a charm.

Dermatologically tested for sensitive skin, Cicaplast Baume B5+ harnesses its unique prebiotic complex, Tribioma, which promotes good bacteria and helps defend against bad bacteria to help overall skin health.

soothing skin balm and swipe of product on a white background
The multi-repairing balm for dry to very dry skin has a rich, nourishing texture suitable for extreme dryness, rough areas, post-acne marks, post-tattoo skin, visible redness and post-procedure skin (i.e., skin that has undergone minor aesthetic treatments such as IPL, laser, peels and LED). The formula is fragrance-free, lanolin-free and leaves no white-marks.

Who Should Use Prebiotics?

Honestly, prebiotics are for everyone, but they’re especially great if you’ve got sensitive or problematic skin. Whether you’re dealing with eczema, rosacea, acne or you just live in a city full of pollution, prebiotics can help keep your skin in check and looking luminous.

How To Use Prebiotics In Your Skincare Routine

Adding prebiotics to your routine is super simple. Look for products that highlight prebiotic ingredients. Start with a gentle cleanser, then follow up with a prebiotic serum or moisturiser.

If you want a no-fuss, all-in-one solution, check out La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Baume B5+. This multi-repairing balm is perfect for daily use. Just slather it on after cleansing and toning, and focus on areas that need extra TLC, like dry patches or irritation-prone spots.

Ready to unlock your best hair? The hair moments that emerge from fashion runways shape the trends for seasons to come.

Which is why we turned to the showstopping looks from Australian Fashion Week and chatted with Chris Hunter, Shark Beauty Hair Director about how to recreate these runway-ready styles at home.

So, grab your Shark Beauty tools (the official hair tool partner of AFW) and let’s dive into three head-turning trends you can effortlessly recreate at home.

1. Natural Minimalism

This trend is all about working with your natural hair texture to create effortlessly chic, lived-in locks. Seen on the runways of Albus Lumen and Beare Park, it’s a celebration of what your hair naturally does best.

Natural Minimalism on the Albus Lumen runway.

“At both shows, we used the Shark FlexStyle Malibu with the diffuser attachment to dry the hair while maintaining its natural texture,” says Chris Hunter.

“This trend is about feeling you, but better,” says Chris.

The result? Soft, touchable waves and curls that exude an effortless, woke-up-like-this look. It’s about being your authentic self, with a polished twist.

2. Directional Roots

This trend is all about sleek sophistication. Carla Zampatti’s runway return brought this look to life, blending timeless elegance with a modern edge.

This simple to achieve look seen on the Carla Zampatti runway gives maximum impact.

Start by using the Shark SpeedStyle and its diffuser attachment for that perfect runway-ready finish.

“Then, to achieve this look,” Chris explains, “slick your hair back towards the nape and tuck it into your collar. Use a strong hair gel to hold it in place, then pin and set.”

It’s the ultimate minimal-effort, maximum-impact look for those days when you need to slay effortlessly.

3. Romantic Mysticism

This trend, showcased by Alix Higgins, is all about dreamy, ethereal vibes. Think sleek edges, soft twists and a whimsical low ponytail.

As seen on the Alix Higgins runway.

To achieve this dream-like elevated vision, Chris created a twist on the left-hand side, sleek edges and smoothed hair into a low pony at the nape.

“Then using the Shark SmoothStyle, we created an S bend throughout the pony,” he explains. “This is done by wrapping the hair around the barrel to create an S shape.”

Simple and striking: Nail the Romantic Mysticism look.

This signature S shape adds a touch of magic, making this style perfect for when you’re feeling a little extra.

Ready, Set, Style!

Some hair tools are worth it, helping even the most amateur hair stylists achieve salon-worthy results. With Shark Beauty’s versatile products, you can create salon styles at home, from bouncy blow-dries and sleek, straight looks to beachy waves and defined curls. With these tools, achieving professional, runway-ready hair at home has never been easier.

From vintage fashion pieces to beloved jewellery—family heirlooms don’t have to hold excessive dollar value to be irreplaceable to us. The memories they evoke, and the nostalgia they stir up are quite literally worth their weight in gold.

Sometimes these treasured mementoes are traditions that are passed through the generations—like beautiful skincare secrets, or a family ritual. They bring on a warm fuzz of emotions, stoke our senses and evoke magical memories as we think of those we love.

Timeless Bonds

Beauty routines hold a true generational magic, too. This sentiment of familial bonds and beauty is beautifully captured in the timeless elegance of the Clarins Precious collection.

Packed with rare ingredients like the moonlight flower cryoextract, the simple, luxe, and curvaceous gold bottles and jars are keepsakes in themselves (we can see ourselves using the pretty vessels to store our earrings and rings), making these creams not just skincare products but beautiful heirlooms in their own right, promising to be part of beauty legacies for years to come.

Future keepsakes: the stunning Clarins Precious collection.

Keep reading as our editors share their precious memories and family treasures, and how these timeless pieces provide a glimpse into the past, while also inspiring a sense of self, style and self-care.

Forever Pieces

“Growing up, I always admired my mum’s rings and loved peeking inside her jewellery box. She recently gave me two of her most treasured rings, and they’ve become staples in my daily jewellery wardrobe.

Now I wear my great grandmother’s simple, rose gold wedding band and a beautiful yellow gold ring set with a quartet of small diamonds and rubies. My mum had the latter ring made with a gold band and gemstones left to her by her own grandmother.

There’s something so special about wearing heirloom pieces that have been in my family for generations—perhaps one day I’ll be able to pass them on to my own daughter.” Kayla Wratten

Vintage Treasures

“One special piece that my beautiful mum passed on to me—and it’s something that I still love to use—is a small, classic brown leather bag that she bought when she was in her 20s. I love the simplicity of it; it’s a classic piece and although it’s getting a bit worn around the edges, and I’ve had to get the zip fixed, it’s so special to me, and I feel close to Mum when I use it.

I was also lucky enough to be gifted my grandmother’s simple gold wedding band (that I wear every day), along with her love of good skincare. Whether she was using homemade products or had saved up for special creams and lotions, she always applied them in upward strokes and would pinch her cheeks for a bit of natural blush.” Delicia Smith

Precious Memories

“I have a small pinkie ring my late mum wore for most of her life. I never take it off now; it’s a little piece of her I carry with me every day. The ring is a small, very simple flat gold band. She bought it when I was born as a gift to herself!

I also have Mum’s carved stone mortar and pestle. She was a fantastic cook and always said it was a beautiful piece to hold and use. She was (as usual) right. Thinking of her through these pieces still makes me teary.” Rachel de Hosson.

Floral Joys

“I grew up in a small town with my mum, two brothers and older sister. We didn’t have a lot of money, but my mum was a keen gardener, and our small cottage garden was always blooming with beautiful greenery. I was no green thumb, but now that Mum has passed, I have a whole new appreciation for gardening.

I wish I spent time with her learning her craft and skills for creating beautiful spaces, and think of her as I now fumble around my own outdoor space wishing I knew more! In particular, we had a beautiful camellia which bloomed with pink flowers just before her birthday, every July. She would always say, ‘the camellia is blooming, it’s almost my birthday…’ Now whenever I see a camellia in flower, it takes me back to my childhood home and memories of Mum.” Franki Hobson

The post The Edit: These Anti Hair Fall Products Are Truly Worth It appeared first on ELLE.

]]>
When we talk about our hair goals, healthy, shiny, strong, luscious locks are top of our hit list.

What we often don’t speak about is the fact that many of us find ourselves battling an all-too-common adversary: hair fall. Whether it’s caused by environmental factors, hormonal changes, or simply getting older, watching strands slip away when you wash or brush your hair can be a source of frustration and anxiety.

Fortunately for beauty lovers who want to combat this issue, restore hair to its former (or future) glory, and prevent further hair fall the Kérastase Genesis collection stands out as a gamechanger.

Anti hair fall products can help strengthen hair from the root to the tip. Use the Kérastase Genesis collection to reduce hair fall due to breakage.

The Ultimate Anti Hair Fall Products

At the heart of the Kérastase Genesis line lies a dedication to innovation and effectiveness. Designed to target both the root and fibre of the hair, these trailblazers boast a potent blend of ingredients aimed at addressing the needs of weakened and thinning hair to promote hair strength and vitality.

From the Genesis Bain Nutri-Fortifiant shampoo, which gently cleanses while fortifying the hair fibre, to the Genesis Anti-Hair Fall Serum, a daily serum to be used over a six-week course that helps minimise hair fall, each product in the range is formulated to deliver tangible results.

But effective hair care doesn’t stop with specialised products alone. You can incorporate a few simple lifestyle changes and beauty swaps to help prevent further hair fall.

Keep scrolling for simple switches to make and products to add to cart.

1. Kérastase Genesis Bain Nutri-Fortifiant Shampoo

Busting the hair myth that frequent shampooing causes dryness, Kérastase Genesis Bain Nutri-Fortifiant Shampoo gently cleanses the scalp while fortifying the hair fibre, promoting stronger, healthier hair and reducing breakage. The luscious scent makes showers a sensorial experience and a little bit of this new-gen shampoo goes a long way.

2. Kérastase Genesis Anti-Hair Fall Serum

Quickly becoming a cult classic, Kérastase Genesis Anti-Hair Fall Serum is a daily leave-in treatment designed to minimise hair fall by nourishing the scalp and strengthening the hair fibre, leaving hair looking fuller and more resilient.

3. Satin Pillowcases

Talk about beauty sleep… unlike traditional cotton pillowcases, satin pillowcases reduce friction and minimise hair breakage, helping to maintain your hair health and prevent hair fall while you catch your eight-hours.

4. Microfibre Towels

A must when travelling, a quick-drying microfibre towel is also great for hair. Win, win! Soft and absorbent, they are gentle on hair and help to reduce friction from rubbing your hair too hard, minimising damage and breakage while promoting moisture retention for stronger, more resilient strands.

5. Heatless Styling Tools

Bendy or foam rollers are a great way to get cool girl hair without the heat damage. These handy hair tools give straight-haired girls beautiful curls and waves without subjecting hair to damaging heat, helping to preserve its strength and vitality while minimising the risk of hair fall.

While we love a new trend to give our wardrobes an update, when it comes to really dressing well and taking your style up a notch, no outfit achieves its full potential without the addition of fragrance. A scent is not just an afterthought to be spritzed on as you head out of the door, but an integral part of your style. It’s as crucial as a beloved bag or bracelet stack for giving polish to a look.

Think of perfume as the ultimate finishing touch. A bit like the bow on a perfectly wrapped gift: it adds that essential je ne sais quoi, elevating your entire ensemble.

Keep reading for our guide on pairing your fragrance with your outfits, and why these trending combinations are simply perfect together.

Bright Block Colours

what-to-wear-job-interview
Bold and bright is here to stay.

If you’re a fan of bold colours, you’ll be pleased to know brights and colour blocking aren’t going anywhere this year. In fact, the trend is set to be even more daring and adventurous. Style this look by mixing colour—from this season’s icy blues to sorbet shades—with extra contrast by mixing in textures to give even more impact.

Pair with: Daisy Marc Jacobs Pop

A head-turning, colourful outfit pairs perfectly with a floral citrus fragrance. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pop is a zesty and sparkling scent with top notes of grapefruit with yuzu and violet leaf. A heart of jasmine with kumquat and violet and a base of musks, pamplewood and vanilla accords. The perfect perfume pick-me-up.

Feminine Meets Masculine

Masculine/feminine dressing is big this season and adding a leather jacket over a floral dress gives edge to a girlie look. You could work the look with an oversized shirt, menswear sweater or bulky blazer too.

Pair with: Daisy Marc Jacobs Eau So Fresh Pop

There’s something sexy about adding a hint of masculine to a feminine outfit, which matches perfectly with this juicy and surprising combination of lime and raspberry in Daisy Marc Jacobs Eau So Fresh Pop. With top notes of lemon, pear and lime accords, a heart of rose, raspberry and violet and a base of musk, crystal moss and cedarwood, it’s a fun fruity floral.

Denim For Days…

Marie Gaguech at Paris Fashion Week.

The ’90s influence is still going strong and this season we are wearing our denim baggy, slouchy, and cuffed. Pair back with a simple white tee and bright accessories.

Pair with: Daisy Marc Jacobs Love Pop

An elegant and flirty fragrance that’s part of the woody gourmand family, it’s a delicious, airy, and fresh interpretation of pistachio with top notes of cloudberry, raspberry and bergamot. A heart of pistachio, chantilly and daisy tree petal, and a base of sorbettolide, benzoin and driftwood accords. Simply delicious.

]]>
Is it just us, or does every new season bring with it the urge to try a new hairstyle? From the recent Oscars red carpet to Gigi Hadid’s Instagram debut of her cropped new bob, it’s clear that experimentation is in the air.

However, amidst the excitement of embracing new trends, there’s one universal truth we all recognise – strong, healthy hair reigns supreme. That’s why we are debunking some prevalent hair myths that have been running rampant in the world of hair care. These misconceptions often leave us uncertain about how to best look after our hair and can impact our confidence.

But fear not! Whatever your hair type or concern – from the girlies with weakened hair who are concerned about hair fall to those who are growing out their locks – by choosing the right hair care products tailored to your hair’s unique needs, you can nourish, protect, and enhance your hair, ultimately boosting your confidence.

Ready to set straight some hair myths? Let’s dive in!

Myth #1 – Trimming Your Hair Will Make It Grow Faster

Sorry to break it to you, but regular hair trims won’t affect how fast your hair grows. Trimming hair helps maintain the health of your hair by preventing split ends, which is likely to help it look and feel in better condition, but cutting your hair doesn’t make the hair grow any faster from the roots.

Emily Ratajkowski showed off her enviably long locks on the Oscars red carpet in March.

Myth #2 – Hair Fall Is Inevitable With Age

Many believe that hair fall and weakened strands are an inevitable part of ageing. While it is true that some of us may experience thinning or hair fall as we get older, it can affect us at any age, but there are steps you can take to minimise it.

Various factors can influence hair fall, including genetics, lifestyle, and your overall health. Being mindful of the way you care for your hair and scalp can help reduce the risk of hair fall and maintain healthy hair throughout your life. This is where a regime using products from Kérastase Genesis comes into play, as it’s been professionally developed to help strengthen hair prone to falling.

Alongside healthy hair care habits, using anti hair fall products can help reduce hair fall by strengthening hair from the root to the tip. Use Kérastase Genesis collection to strengthen hair and reduce hair fall due to breakage.

The Genesis collection is a dual-action fortifying system professionally developed to strengthen hair and reduce breakage. Formulated with edelweiss native cells, ginger root, arginine and caffeine, this hair system provides immediate strength and softness for healthy, strong hair. And it reduces hair fall by 84 percent*.

Using Kérastase Genesis Daily Anti Hair Fall Fortifying Serum each day can give resistance to hair fall by creating the optimal environment for new hair growth.

Myth #3 – Frequent Shampooing Causes Dryness

How often you should wash your hair will be different for everyone. While it’s true that excessive shampooing can remove natural oils and lead to dryness, using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type can help maintain moisture balance without causing dryness. So you can wash it as often as you need.

Myth #4 – Brushing Hair 100 Strokes a Day Promotes Shine

This hair myth has been doing the rounds forever. Brushing hair vigorously won’t enhance shine or stimulate hair growth. However, excessive brushing can cause friction and damage to the hair cuticle, leading to breakage. Gentle brushing when needed is sufficient for detangling and distributing natural oils throughout your locks.

Myth #5 – Colouring Hair Causes Irreversible Damage

Done correctly, there’s nothing to fear about colouring and hair damage. While chemical treatments can weaken the hair if done improperly or excessively, modern hair colouring techniques and products are formulated to minimise damage. With proper maintenance and conditioning, coloured hair can stay healthy and vibrant.

Myth #6 – You Shouldn’t Have Long Hair Over the Age of 30

Sorry, but whoever suggested that long hair is inappropriate or less flattering for women over the age of 30 needs to have a rethink. Your hair length is a matter of personal preference and style, and it is not dictated by age. Women of any age can rock long locks with confidence and style. And we’re thankful for our long-haired muses for proving it. Looking at you Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Jennifer Aniston… the list goes on and on.

Sarah Jessica Parker proves long hair can look great at every age.

Myth #7 – Air Drying Hair Is Healthier Than Blow Drying

Too much heat styling can damage hair, but air drying isn’t always the best option, especially in humid environments. Using a heat protectant and blow drying on a low heat setting can be just as healthy for the hair, especially when time is a factor.

Try Kérastase Genesis collection:

Daily fortifying serum for weakened hair that is prone to falling due to breakage from brushing.

Lightweight fortifying shampoo for normal to oily, weakened hair that is prone to falling due to breakage from brushing.

Fortifying conditioner for weakened hair.

Fortifying blow dry heat protectant for weakened hair.

*Instrumental test on Bain Nutri-fortifiant + Masque Rénovateur + Ampoule/Sérum Aminexil. Clinical study, 99 people after 6 weeks of use (hair loss).

With more of you than ever wanting to be your own boss, work for yourselves and grow your side hustle into your main career, we bring you ELLEpreneurs. A place for entrepreneurs, business owners and big thinkers to get tips and hear from those who’ve done it before and succeeded.

In Episode 3 of our ELLEpreneurs series podcast host, author and business owner Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa shares her secrets to successfully working for yourself and how she balances business growth and boundaries.

Keep reading for the full interview, and for more of the series, head over to Episode 1 where Alexis shares her initial business idea and how she created a vibrant website and brand hub using Squarespace, and Episode 2 where she chats how she manifested her business idea and moved it through to launch stage.

ELLE: Once you’ve launched and you’re building your business, how do you know when to expand?

Alexis: Make sure you factor in some time for yourself and some self-care. When you’re in this stage of having launched, you’re probably going to be questioning every single thing that you do. And it’s important to take a step back, acknowledge what you have already done, and do some things for yourself. This is where spending time with people that really make you laugh and have a good connection with is super important because it gets you out of your head, and it gets you enjoying the moment.

When considering your own growth, what can you do to make yourself feel good? Is it something where it’s physical, like exercise? Is that reading a book? Is it listening to an audio book, or gardening?

How do you keep your work separate from your home?

It’s important to learn how to separate your work life from your home life. And we’re in an age now where even if your place of work is outside of the home, you’ve got your devices, you can access almost everything from your device. You need to have a lot of self-control and set a time limit or a cut off time in the day to stop working.

That way, you’re able to really switch off and dedicate your time to your loved ones, your family and yourself as well. Because without that balance, something that you love can turn into something that’s just overwhelming.

How do you separate your work life from your friendships, and should the two ever mix?

When it comes to friends, and socialising, your friends want to hang out with you, they don’t want to hang out with your business.

I look at hanging out with my friends as the perfect opportunity for creating balance in my life. That is my time where I can really switch off and invest my time and energy and get carried away with the conversations that I have with my friends without having to be thinking about the business in the back of my mind.

Spending time with people that make you laugh is super important because it gets you out of your head, and into enjoying the moment.

Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa

How did you grow your business?

You have to strike a balance there as well. Slow growth is really good growth, because it actually allows you to edit and change things as you go.

So balance really applies to the growth of your business as well. You want to balance your ambition with where you are right now. And for me, the best way to grow was slow and linear. That was also the best way to learn about my audience and to grow alongside my audience, and learn from them as they learn from me.

How did your website help in that journey?

I think that diversifying your offering is really important. And Squarespace has allowed me to do that. In the one website, I can sell all my merchandise and I can also create and sell my courses. And it allows me to have everything that I do in one place. I’m also able to view the analytics on everything that I sell.

Anyone you have taken inspiration from along the way?

Business mentoring is something that you might want to consider. But it doesn’t have to be in the traditional sense where you find one person that you speak to and pay for a mentoring course.

You can access mentors through the podcasting medium where you can learn how they work. So many people share what they’ve learned, and it’s free to access. So really do your research and find the people that you look up to so you can learn from them.

With more of you than ever wanting to be your own boss, work for yourselves and grow your side hustle into your main career, we bring you ELLEpreneurs. A place for entrepreneurs, business owners and big thinkers to get tips and hear from those who’ve done it before and succeeded.

Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa is a podcast host, creator of DYFM+ and a bestselling author, and she’s passionate about helping people to achieve their goals.

In Episode 2 of our ELLEpreneurs series Alexis shares her secrets on how she manifested her business idea and moved it through to launch stage. Keep reading for the full interview, and for more of the series, head over to Episode 1 where Alexis shares her initial business idea, how she works through mistakes and how she created a vibrant website and brand hub using Squarespace.

ELLE: Tell us about the idea and how you moved it forward?

Alexis: I had a lot of emotions between having my idea and pressing go. Part of me really wanted to succeed straightaway. And then the other part of me didn’t really know what I was doing until I started. From having my idea to launching my podcast (Do You F***ing Mind) was just a two week timeframe. It was fast! But it wasn’t a success from day one.

Now I like looking back and thinking that my work now is so much better than when I started. I think you shouldn’t have to wait to feel like ‘everything is perfect’ to launch. You want to see a journey of growth between when you begin, and everything that you learn along the way to where you’ll be in six months or in 12 months’ time.

When did you realise you needed a website for your brand?

Eight months after I started the podcast, I began doing course content. Products like Squarespace make it so easy to jump on and get things moving.

I had the merch, and I had the shopfront. But I didn’t have one hub for everyone to visit and understand what my business is about. It was kind of a bit disjointed, there was one thing going here, one thing there, but nothing that tied it all together.

What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?

It’s so important when you’re launching a business that you can find the right support and the right tools to help you move forward. This is where Squarespace was really helpful for me, because it was a place where I could bring in all the elements of my business and have it in one space. It was like the home for my business. And this was the perfect way to allow my audience to access my merchandise, my content, it’s also a place where they can communicate with me and where I can build a community.

Any other tips for building a beautiful site and brand?

When you look at your website, you want it to speak to your brand, speak to who you are. And really, it is your personality. When I look at my website, I can see that it’s me and it is my brand. It’s all encompassing. It’s exactly what I want it to be.

It’s important to speak to people whose opinion you respect and ask them what it is that you see when you look at this website, and how they describe it will give you good insight into what other people are saying.

With Squarespace, there are so many different templates that you can use. Just keep playing around, chop and change until you get to the perfect website that you want to have. You can drag and drop different elements to build it how you want it and you can add photos, you can add videos. So many options!

You don’t have to wait to feel like ‘everything is perfect’ to launch.

Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa

Did you set any goals along the way?

There’s a lot about business that you will never know until you start. There’s so much that you can’t ever research, as the learning is in the doing. You’ve got to find the sweet spot, because you’re going to get to a point where you can’t learn any more until you start making mistakes.

How do you know your business is ready to launch?

I don’t think you do know for sure. I think it’s important that you have the key tools in place. But it’s also good to start before you think you’re completely ready. You can never be ready for something you’ve never tried. So once you start, you can steer your business in the direction that you want it to go. Just get those key tools and go.

When you’re getting your website ready and launching your business, it’s important to not overthink the process. You want to be happy with what you can see you want to be happy with sharing it. But it doesn’t have to be perfect. And a lot of the learning a lot of the growth, a lot of the improvements can only occur once you’ve launched and get started with your business.

How did you market your business?

Once your website is ready, it’s time to share it. There’s a lot of grassroots ways you can use to grow your business, for example through word of mouth. The way I look at it is, when I look at a piece of content that I’m sharing with my friends on socials, with my family, I always ask myself, why would they want to re-share it? What is it about this piece of content that makes people want to tell someone else about it? There’s got to be something compelling in there, whether it’s a funny story, whether it’s something entertaining, whether it’s educational… why would someone want to then pass this content on to the next person? And that gives me a really good idea of why I’m sharing this to my friends and family in the first place.

Any final tips?

You’re going to be feeling a lot of emotions when it comes to sharing your business and your website for the first time. And sometimes these emotions might make you feel anxious; you might feel like you’re not ready, that it’s not good enough, that you’re not good enough. But a lot of the time, these emotions are heightened when you’re just sitting in your own head.

Once you start to take action – when you start talking, when you start sharing – you’re in the doing phase, and you’re spending less time in your head, questioning everything that you do and more time taking action, being involved in what you’re doing. Then those emotions will to start to fade away and you’re going to be in a more proactive state instead of a reactive state.

With more of you than ever wanting to be your own boss, work for yourselves and grow your side hustle into your main career, we bring you ELLEpreneurs. A place for entrepreneurs, business owners and big thinkers to get tips and hear from those who’ve done it before and succeeded.

Meet Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa, the vibrant force behind the Do You F***ing Mind podcast, an accomplished author, and the visionary creator of DYFM+.

In the first part of our ELLEpreneurs series Alexis shares her business journey from its inception as we dig into her advice for entrepreneurs; from how to land your business idea, how mistakes can be the making of you and her tips to create a vibrant website that will help set you up for success.

Beautiful, accessible web design

One key element that played a pivotal role in bringing DYFM+ to life is the Squarespace platform. Alexis leveraged the user-friendly features and design capabilities of Squarespace to build and elevate her business and take it to the next level.

The seamless integration of Squarespace empowered Alexis to showcase her latest offerings, including the Design Your 2.0 Self online course and her merch shop, with a visually compelling and easy-to-navigate interface.

“The first thing I loved about Squarespace was how beautiful it looked, I just loved the aesthetic. Then when I started using it I found that it’s really easy, and really user friendly,” Alexis tells ELLE Australia.

Keep reading to find out how Alexis got started with her business and how creating a website using Squarespace enabled her business to grow and move into its next era.

ELLE: Tell us about your business?

Alexis: My business idea actually evolved quite organically, I started a podcast (Do You F***ing Mind), that was the first pillar of my business.

And the reason I started it was while I was doing my master’s in neuroscience, I loved talking about the brain. So, I thought, why not fuel my love for the brain in a podcast, which I launched while at uni. At first, it was just for fun.

And then I found that when I would do the podcast, it would help me retain information that I had learned at uni. So it was just a really good tool for me to have on the side.

As the podcast started evolving, and it started really growing an audience, I found that the reason behind what I was doing was to help people, improve their relationships with themselves.

And then fast-forward a couple of years and I realised that there was so much more that I could add to this business, and I started adding merchandise and more recently courses, so the audience can really maximise the content I produce.

Why did you want to start a business?

I was, for the first time in my life, following my passion. I started the podcast and I was investing more time in my audience, I felt that I’d found my thing. And everything just started flowing my way.

How did you seek advice?

When it comes to seeking advice, I think you have to be really careful. I think it’s important that you don’t ask every single person for their opinion because everyone has one. So, you need to find people who either have your best interest at heart or are qualified to give you advice in that area. And a lot of people are not.

Another thing that I believe when it comes to seeking advice is you don’t have to physically know this person. You can seek advice from people that you look up to and research these people online and see what they have said as well.

If you ask every single person for their opinion, it’s too much. You might feel that you choke up, you’re unable to begin your business, you think that you’re making a mistake, you think that it’s the wrong decision, and you end up just not going forward with your business idea.

What made you choose Squarespace?

For the first couple of years, I didn’t have a website, but as the brand was growing, I needed one. I needed a hub for the business to live on. Someone I admire recommended Squarespace and when I checked it out, the first thing that I loved about it, the thing that sold me, was how beautiful it looked. I just loved the aesthetic. And then I started using it. And it’s really easy and user friendly. I’m able to edit things, change things, update things whenever I need to, which is great. It’s easy for anyone to get started on Squarespace.

Building my website has created a great hub, a beautiful home for my brand. So I can send my audience there and people that don’t know much about what I do. And it’s where they can access course content, merchandise, and also where they interact with me, and send questions and feedback.

How do you manage mistakes?

When it comes to making mistakes you’ve got to get to a point where you accept that it’s inevitable, especially if it’s something that you’ve never done before. It’s kind of a bit of trial and error; you’re learning as you go.

I have made so many mistakes in business. But every single mistake has served as a lesson, a way to point me in a different direction. So it’s never a complete loss. And I think that as you make mistakes, you realise that it doesn’t destroy you, you learn from it, and it’s not that bad. And you just move forward.

Any final advice?

It’s just about getting out there. Starting before you’re ready. Just putting yourself out there and getting the necessary tools you need to get started.

Brought to you by Clairol.

Switching up your hair colour or hairstyle is an easy way to refresh your look—just ask these celebrities who love the transformative power of a new ‘do.

And there are plenty of options if you are looking to update your hair colour this year—from the bold to the beautiful. While some may require a professional pair of hands and are best done in the salon, there are other hair colours you can DIY at home.

Keen for a new look? We spoke to makeup artist Hayley Dutton for her thoughts on the hair colour trends and techniques to watch out for in 2024. Prepare to be inspired.

Gemini Hair

The Gemini hair trend really is the best way to get two for one when it comes to hair colour. Especially if you want to make a statement.

Nicki Minaj and Georgia Mae Jagger have tried the Gemini hair trend.

(Credit: Getty Images, Instagram.)

“If you’re torn between which way to go colour wise, Gemini hair gives you two options. Similar to skunk stripe hair and dip dye ends, here we see two-toned hair. With this trend we usually see one colour down one side of the hair, and another colour on the other side,” says Hayley.

Want to recreate this look yourself at home? The Clairol Natural Instincts Bold range offers bold, bright and glossy shades, and 0 percent ammonia for a damage free colour.

90s Highlights

“Chunky 90s highlights are still very much dominating the face framing space,” Hayley explains.

If anything is going to get us reliving the 90s it’s a bold dash of neon or a chunky highlight a la Jennifer Lopez.

“Here we see a much bolder, chunkier highlight framing the face. We’ll continue to see this using blonde and golden tones, as well as pops of neon-toned highlights for something that packs a little more punch,” she adds.

Cowgirl Copper

Copper hair is having a moment.

“There is nothing more opulent than warm and glossy copper tones seen in the different variations of this trend,” says Hayley.

“From block colours to a textured three toned copper finish, this is a great way to enter the red category if orange undertones scare you,” advises Hayley.

Arctic Blonde

“Arctic blonde, ice blonde and white chocolate hair are always on trend,” says Hayley.

Bright blonde tones are here to stay, and Kim Kardashian agrees.

“But this time around we are seeing a massive resurgence with its super clean, ice cube vibes and icy undertone.”

“For the perfect shade, look for ‘ash’, ‘ultra light’ and ‘cool’ in the Clairol range. And to really clean out any brassiness or yellow, warm undertones, the Clairol Blonde It Up Toners in Radiant Opal or Luminous Pearl work a treat!” Hayley recommends.

Glossed Out

While face framing and highlights are always flattering, you really can’t compete with expensive single toned glossy locks.

“We are seeing rich glossy healthy hair coming right back in, and you can create this in any deeper or darker shade from reds, rich plums through to cool deep brown, black tones,” says Hayley.

“Luckily this is super easy to achieve using many of the Clairol ranges including Nice’n Easy, Nice’n

Easy Repair, Natural Instincts and Natural Instincts Bold,” she adds.

If you’re ready for a colour change and a salon visit isn’t an option, it’s time to turn to a DIY hair colour at home.

Box dyes have come a long way in recent years, and new formulas like Clairol Natural Instincts enhance your natural colour and boost shine without sacrificing what’s most important – the health of your hair.

Natural Instincts is Clairol’s most natural hair colour to-date, created with 80 percent naturally derived ingredients, including coconut oil and aloe vera. Clairol Natural Instincts contains no nasties –no ammonia, no PPD and no parabens. Leaving you to make a statement with bold, glossy, irresistible colour.

So now you’re sorted with your product, how do you ensure you get professional hair colour results at home?

We spoke to award-winning colourist Belinda Jeffrey for her advice on how to dye your hair at home like a professional. Keep scrolling for her tips.

Mya Rose Miller wears Clairol Natural Instincts Shade 5 Medium Brown.

ELLE: What scenarios is home colouring best for? E.g., in between salon appointments, a big colour change, covering greys, etc.

Belinda Jeffrey: The best scenario for home hair colouring is when you’re doing your regrowth, covering greys, or going either two shades lighter or darker than your natural hair colour.

I would not recommend using home hair colour to do major changes to your hair. It’s really best for maintenance.

Should I home colour dirty or clean hair?

I would recommend, especially with a permanent colour range like Clairol Nice’n Easy, having dirty hair.

The reason being that the dirtier your hair is, the more natural oils you have which protects your scalp from irritation or chemicals i.e. ammonia or peroxide which is in a permanent colour range.

What about if I usually use a lot of products on my hair?

If you use powders or sprays to blend greys, they build on the hair and can be like chalk. So, if you use a lot of these, I recommend washing your hair two days prior to applying the colour at home.

Should I try highlights or balayage, or is this best left to the pros?

I would never recommend doing balayage or any type of lightening at home as they require special techniques and are best left to the professionals for the best result.

Emma Stone recently debuted this fresh, blonde bob. It’s best to leave techniques like highlights and balayage to the professionals.

How do I choose the right colour/shade for me?

I suggest never going two shades lighter or darker than your natural hair colour. If you do, the colour will create a band in the hair and won’t provide an even result.

Always follow the instructions on the side of the box and look for the colour graph, which shows you what the result will be next to your natural colour. For example, if you are looking at going to a darker brown, this will work perfectly.

Any tips for applying the home dye correctly? E.g., Tools to use? Roots then ends?

Always do this process in the bathroom and use old T-shirts and towels. It will make the process easier, and you won’t mind if you get dye on them.

Also try applying Vaseline to the hairline, so you have a more natural look. Normally the box comes with a touch-up brush which you should use to mix and apply the colour.

If you’re doing a touch-up, start with the roots and move through the ends of your hair in the last five minutes. If you’re doing a full colour, start with the roots and continue straight through to the ends of the hair.

Oh… and gloves will be your best friend! Wash off in the shower and make sure to rinse out any excess dye for a few minutes before going into your shampoo and conditioner.

Clairol Natural Instincts, $17.99, lasts up to 28 washes and enhances your natural hair colour.

What’s the difference between semi-permanent and permanent colour?

Semi-permanent, such as Clairol Natural Instincts, is colour that will wash out after a four-six-week period, leaving a more natural blend without harsh regrowth. This is because the semi-permanent sits on the top layer of the hair and washes away over time.

A permanent colour will cover or change your colour by sinking into the hair. It will last about four-six weeks however it will have a harsher regrowth.

How about ingredients, which to look out for and which to avoid?

I personally try to stay away from high levels of ammonia and anything over two percent peroxide is best to avoid. This is why I recommend using Clairol Natural Instincts as it’s formulated with no ammonia, has no animal derived ingredients, and has an allergy gentle molecule.

There’s nothing like getting your hair cut into a new style or trying out a hair trend to instantly freshen up your look and make you feel transformed.

Every season there are a handful of new cuts and styles that make their way into our Insta saved folders and onto our Pinterest boards, and this winter is no different.

Whether you are considering the chop a la Hailey Bieber’s short bob or you prefer to try a styling trick to update your ‘do, we’ve pulled together the trends that are dominating our feeds right now. Keep reading for the looks you need on your radar.

Textured bedhead

If there’s a hair trend we can all pull off, it’s the bedhead look. Call it tousled, lived in, or “woke up like this” hair, this messy style is back and giving us major cool girl vibes. Perfect for lazy girls, it’s the trend to try this year and beyond.

Textured layers can sometimes look dry and over-processed if not cared for correctly. To prevent hair becoming damaged from over styling, hydrate and repair your tresses with a weekly hair mask, like OGX XS Argan Oil Mask, $25.

Chin-length bob

When Hailey Bieber changes her look, we know it’s going to be a trend. (Hello, glazed donut nails.) She’s currently rocking a short, chin-length bob and it’s already becoming one of the most-copied styles of the year. Thinking of getting a drastic chop yourself? Ask your hairdresser for a blunt bob, no layers. Surely the simplest celeb style dupe there is, no?

Keep hair in great condition by using a hair oil regularly, such as OGX Renewing+ Argan Oil of Morocco Penetrating Oil, $30, which penetrates, moisturises and revives hair while protecting it from heat damage when styling.

Wet-look hair

Bella Hadid rocked wet-look hair at the Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer 2023 runway show in Paris.

Wet-look hair is a runway and red-carpet classic, and the trend is really making a splash this year. The high-shine finish is super impactful and can elevate a look to feel sexy and glamourous. Yes, it can feel like a bold statement, but it is actually very wearable and surprisingly versatile.

Hair gel or oil spray like OGX Frizz-Free + Keratin Smoothing Oil Miracle Gloss Spray, $27, will give it that wet look without you actually going out with ‘wet’ hair. So the style still works in the colder months, too. Wear it pushed straight back, side swept, leave your hair out, or slick hair back into high or low bun.

Side part

Models wore their hair in a side part on the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2023 runway in Paris.

Once a style is seen on the runways it doesn’t take long before it filters down to our feeds. Hair parted way off to one side was a biggie on the Fashion Week runways and it is a style you’ll see everywhere this season. Easy to copy, it can be worn with long or short hair, swept back, in an updo, with braids… So many options. Deep side parts work well to slim a round face, too.

It’s time to champion bare skin.

Recently, we’ve noticed a ‘less is more’ attitude creeping into our beauty routines and makeup looks. And while trends come and go, highlighting our natural features will never go out of style.

Just ask celebs like Alicia Keys, who swore off makeup in 2016, saying she was becoming “addicted to it” and “didn’t feel comfortable without it”. Bella Hadid, Kylie Jenner, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow—a suite of celebs are championing #nomakeup selfies on social media.

If you want to get your skin looking its best, the team at Clarifier is here to help.

Natural Skin Is In

While makeup can be an extension of your style, skincare can be a form of selfcare. Following a simple routine will also help your skin look the best it can.

Though everyone has different skin types and issues, once you have the basics of ‘cleanse, moisturise and protect’ (with SPF) sorted, you can add in extra steps as needed.

Say Goodbye To Dull Skin

An exfoliator is a great place to start to help your skin glow.

The point of an exfoliator is to slough off any excess build-up of dead skin cells, oil, and dirt. Picking an exfoliator that’s gentle on skin is key.

Clarifier Hydro Exfoliator, $85.

While traditional scrubs or harsh chemicals can cause irritation, Clarifier Hydro Exfoliator is a simple and gentle exfoliator that instantly removes dead skin without the use of harsh acids.

It works by using plant-based enzymes, called Keratease, to dissolve keratin, which is the main component of dead skin. Simply rub it gently into the skin on your face and watch as the dead skin is massaged away.

Treat Yourself (And Your Skin)

Breakouts, pimples and pigmentations can affect anyone, which is where an overnight treatment comes in.

Clarifier ENZY Treatment, $156.

Clarifier ENZY Treatment uses plant-based enzymes and salicylic acid together to target not only acne and pore congestion, but also melanin and UV damage, as you sleep.

It’s not just for acne-prone complexions, but also people with hyperpigmentation. It helps improve the appearance of UV damaged skin, corrects uneven skin tone, and creates brighter and balanced looking skin.

Less Is More

Remember, when it comes to nailing the bare skin movement, all it takes is for you to feel confident and comfortable enough in your own skin to go out and slay.

We love falling down a TikTok rabbit hole, especially when we’re looking for the best beauty trends to try or the latest skincare products that really work.

A quick search on #skintok shows 10.4b views—talk about a hot topic!—but with so much beauty and skincare information floating through the app, it can be tough to decipher which products are actually worth trying. Especially if you are looking to solve something as frustrating as acne flareups.

Thankfully, Dermal Therapy (yes, the makers of the cult lip balm TikTokers swear by) has launched a new acne range—think: next-gen skincare technology meets a simple three-step acne solution—and it really works.

Clear Skin That’s Cared For

Dermal Therapy Acne Control range is clinically tested, and dermatologist recommended, to provide visible results. It’s suitable for even the most sensitive skin, as it contains no harsh bleach or salicylic acid—both ingredients to avoid if you have delicate skin as they can damage and dry out your face.

Acne can be annoying, but tackling those pesky breakouts is easier than ever with Dermal Therapy Acne Control range. Read on for the simple three-step routine for banishing bad skin days.

Step 1: Cleanse

Dermal Therapy Acne Control Wash, $18.99.

The best skincare routine for acne always starts with cleansing. Dermal Therapy Acne Control Wash is a super gentle foaming wash that’s free from harsh peroxide (a.k.a. bleach), salicylic acid, soap and SLS. It contains Seboclear™ formula that actively controls excess oil. Plus, your skin’s natural microbiome remains healthy and balanced, which isn’t always the case with some acid or peroxide-based cleansers.

And keep the pressure gentle, too. Don’t be tempted to over wash or scrub your skin as this can disrupt the skin barrier, leading to irritation and inflammation, making it more difficult to treat acne.

Step 2: Treat

Dermal Therapy Acne Spot Cream, $19.99.

Next, you’ll want to tackle breakouts when they appear using Dermal Therapy Acne Spot Cream. It’s a targeted spot treatment that uses triple alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) in a slow, diffusing format to gently unblock pores and effectively reduce breakouts. And you can say goodbye to scars as it is formulated with a unique anti-scar formula, with niacinamide, bakuchiol (a natural retinol equivalent) and alpha arbutin. Use this spot cream occasionally on the most stubborn spots.

Step 3: Moisturise and Prevent

Dermal Therapy Acne Control Lotion, $19.99.

Yes, you still need to moisturise even when your skin may appear oily, as maintaining a hydrated and healthy skin barrier is extremely important with acne-prone skin. Choosing an oil-free product like Dermal Therapy Acne Control Lotion will help prevent breakouts and means you can use it every day (and night). It contains powerhouse ingredients like hyaluronic acid and aloe vera for intense hydration, and niacinamide to reduce pore size and redness. Plus, it contains an anti-scar formula and natural retinol equivalent bakuchiol to fade any pigmentation or acne scars. What more could you ask for?

Finally… Don’t Forget SPF!

We’ll say it again, everyone needs sunscreen every day! It’s the vital final stage of your skincare routine, even if you are dealing with acne. The trick is to look for formulas that are oil-free, or labelled non-comedogenic, which means they won’t clog your pores.

Dermal Therapy Acne Range is available in Chemist Warehouse and other leading Pharmacies. Visit https://dermaltherapy.com.au/conditions/acne/ to find out more.
