And, if I can make it in a hurry, like this quick skillet pork chop recipe, then all the better!
Skillet Pork Chops
Let me tell you how this really easy skillet pork chop recipe came to be a favorite around my house.
Some time back when I was making my list for the grocery store and farm stand, I asked my then young son which foods he would like to eat. His reply included, “chocolate milk, Oreos, and some more maple syrup.” While those were items I felt sure he wanted, I focused next on the major food groups and quickly got a list of fruits he wanted, such as apples, bananas, grapes and watermelon.
Then I asked him a meat he’d like for supper that week and he eagerly replied, “pork chops, but without anything on them.”
Now I had a plan. I knew just what items he wanted to eat for the week and he’d even gone so far as to tell me how he’d prefer that I prepared one of the meals! And when you are making a meal for a somewhat picky youngster, this information is golden!
After he’d gobbled up his supper the night I made these pork chops, he said, “Mama, that was exactly what I wanted for supper. Can we have those again sometime?” Mission accomplished.
Here’s how I make my skillet pork chops recipe.
How to Make Skillet Pork Chops
I make these Skillet Pork Chops really simply with a few ingredients and a big cast iron skillet.
Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Pour about 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil into a skillet over medium heat on your cooktop.
Add your pork chops to your skillet and season well with salt and pepper.
Cook on one side for about 3-5 minutes.
Turn and cook other side for about 3-5 minutes as well, making sure each side has browned.
Remove from range and place skillet into the preheated oven. Allow to cook for 15 more minutes.
Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.
We love these pork chops with so many different side dishes such as Skillet Mac and Cheese or Mashed Potatoes with green vegetables like Green Beans or Skillet Zucchini and many more.
Don’t forget dessert! It can be anything as simple as my Homemade Applesauce, or classic favorites such as Southern Banana Pudding or Easy Peach Cobbler.
Here’s my son’s favorite pork chop recipe. I hope you love them as much as he does!

I’m 77 y.o. and a pretty good cook, but have never mastered pork chops – never could get them tender enough to really enjoy. Someone said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Well they’re wrong, wrong, wrong. Tonight this old gal learned a new trick and cooked the most tender, juiciest pork chops she’s ever eaten in her whole life . . . and it’s thanks to you Robin and your wonderful recipes. I’m hoping to make this recipe several hundred more times in my lifetime, lol.
Eve, I’m so happy to hear that this recipe helped you make tender, juicy pork chops. Thanks for letting me know this helped you. I hope you find many more recipes here that you love, too.
I LOVE this pork chop recipe! This is my go to recipe for a low cost quick weeknight dinner. I usually make homemade mashed potatoes and some peas with or. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe.
Thanks so much, Tamra!
Love this recipe! I add garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
I recommend adding a few more spices to your liking and pounding the pork, which makes it more tender and soft to cut through. Thank you for the recipe, turned out great.Â
Very quick. Tender and a simple but good flavor recipe. Thanks , will make again!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Justin! Thanks!
P.S. My chops are cooking, according to your recipe, as I write. ????????
Enjoy them, Sarah! Thanks so much!!!
This may seem a bit unusual, but you know what goes great with pork chops? A side of applesauce with plain or toasted sesame (sp?) seeds sprinkled liberally on top. I think your son will really like this simple, but interesting addition.
Love these side ideas, Sarah! Thanks! xo
Love this recipe, the only thing I add is some tony chacheres creole, cause I love the creole on most of my foods lol
