Perfect Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs Recipe
Learn how to make perfect eggs in the Instant Pot with my simple tried and true tips that are easier to peel every time!
I usually make a dozen at a time since we tend to go through them throughout the week.
What Do You Need to Make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs?
- Eggs
- Instant Pot
- Steamer Basket or Trivet
- 1 cup water
I use this steamer basket for my Instant Pot eggs since I like to cook so many eggs at one time, but you can also use the trivet provided with your Instant Pot if you are only cooking a few at a time.
How to Make Perfect Soft and Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot
- Arrange. Arrange eggs in a single layer in my steamer basket or on the trivet insert for the Instant Pot.
- Pour. Pour in the water and secure the lid to the Instant Pot.
- Cook. Set the time to the appropriate time and pressure setting based on if you prefer your eggs soft or hard boiled.
- Plunge. Plunge your cooked eggs into a bowl filled with ice water to quickly cool them down and to stop the cooking process.
- Peel. Immediately peel your cooled eggs for the best results.
Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs
Set the time for 5 minutes on High Pressure. Allow the pressure to release for 5 minutes and then quick release the remaining pressure by carefully placing a towel over the pressure release vent until all of the pressure has released. Remove the lid of the Instant Pot, run cool water over your eggs and then plunge the eggs into a bowl of ice water. Peel immediately.
- Pressure – High
- Time – 5 minutes
- Release – Quick
I’ve found that having an ice bath ready in a large bowl helps to cool down the eggs even more after initially running under cool water. This helps the eggs to peel perfectly every time.
If you do not have an Instant Pot, you may want to use my other methods for cooking them, such as my classic method for hard boiling eggs and how to make them in the oven.

Do you have a recipe for egg white muffins? Â They have a small amount of chopped ham
and red peppers. Â I ordered one at Starbucks. Â It was great! Â Thanks.
I you don’t have an instapot but another pressure cooker – and I don’t have a steamer insert. What do you recommend?
What Instant Pot product would you recommend?
I will never cook them any other way. I always cook them at high pressure for 7 minutes. I have plunged them in ice water when I needed them immediately, but I usually just stick them in the refrigerator. Love my Instant Pot!
They are amazing cooked in the Instant Pot, aren’t they?! Thanks so much, Kay! xo
I, also, own an Instant Pot Pressure Cooker, but I have an even easier way to make very easy to peel hard boiled eggs. I leave my dozen eggs in the refrigerator until I’m ready to use them. I fill my pasta cooker stock pot with water to just the bottom of the pasta insert and then remove the insert. I bring this water to a boil over the highest heat my range top will provide. THEN I put the cold eggs into the insert and place the insert into the pot and cover and allow to continue steaming over high heat for 13 minutes. I turn off the heat, bring the pot to my sink, remove the basket to dump the hot water, replace the basket and leave the pot, basket and all, under cold running water until all the eggs have cooled. These eggs will have a golden interior, no sulphur ring around the yolk, and the jackets will slip off very slickly. I put them back into the egg container (labeled hard boiled eggs) and remove and shell them whenever I want a hard boiled egg. I usually run them under hot tap water before cracking and deshelling, and the shells peel off just as slick.
Hi Clara,
Thanks for sharing how you make boiled eggs! I enjoy making hard boiled eggs on my stovetop sometimes too!
I’ve really enjoyed making them with my Instant Pot and find I get excellent results with less time since I don’t have to wait on water to boil, etc.
Since you have an Instant Pot, I can’t wait to hear what you think if you try them this way.
Thanks! xo
